I spent eight years in the BPO industry before any of this. One shift, a colleague had a stroke at his desk. He survived it. His savings did not stretch far enough, and the people who loved him spent the months afterwards doing arithmetic instead of grieving.

I grew up around insurance. I am a second generation practitioner, so the vocabulary was never new to me. That day was the first time the words meant something. I joined Sun Life Grepa Financial in July 2012 and I have been here ever since, now as an agency manager as well as an advisor.

Since then I have finished the Registered Financial Planner programme, collected a few awards from the company, and given financial wellness talks in schools, offices, and barangay halls across Metro Manila and Bulacan. I have also spent an unreasonable number of hours learning to explain a variable unit-linked plan without using the phrase variable unit-linked plan.

That is what the podcast is for. It is called Unboxing Life Insurance, and the entire premise is that you should be able to understand this before anyone asks you to sign anything. My clients are mostly between 25 and 45. Employees, freelancers, business owners, and OFWs. Almost all of them are the person their family calls first when something goes wrong.

Away from the spreadsheets I build GunPla, play far too much PC gaming, have recently started on Magic: The Gathering, and will take any excuse to try a new place to eat. If you collect anything at all, we will get along fine.
